Red2Blue in action at The Meadows Primary School

The Meadows Primary School has embedded Red2Blue throughout school. This video captures how they have established Red2Blue as a common language for managing pressure and emotions, transforming the wellbeing and behaviour of pupils.

A student-led approach to wellbeing

The Meadows has appointed two pupils as the school's wellbeing champions. These young students have taken ownership of the Red2Blue framework, understanding not just the strategies themselves, but their role in supporting their peers. As they explain in the video, their job involves helping other children by promoting the school's values and ethos as well as positive wellbeing across the school.

What makes this approach so powerful is its simplicity and accessibility. The children talked naturally about recognising when they're in a "Red Head" (feeling angry, anxious, or overexcited) and the practical steps they can take to return to a "Blue Head", where they feel "cool, calm, clear and aware." Each classroom has its own Red2Blue box filled with resources, making the tools immediately available when needed.

From theory to practice

One of the school's Red2Blue coaches, explained the thinking behind the approach: "Where our attention goes, our energy follows." This simple principle underpins everything Red2Blue does. Rather than suppressing emotions like anxiety or anger, the programme teaches children to recognise these normal feelings and find strategies to regulate themselves so they can focus on their learning.

The wellbeing champions demonstrate this beautifully. They sit with children who need time and space to reflect, helping them to think through what happened, how their behaviour affected themselves or others and what Red2Blue strategies they could use next time.

Strategies that kids can use

The students themselves were the best advocates for the programme. They spoke enthusiastically about the strategies that work for them: speaking to a trusted adult about how they're feeling, spotting different colours around the room or using a fidget, for example, to help them focus on getting back from a Red Head to Blue Head. One child put it perfectly, suggesting that if you're in a

“Red Head and it's up there and you can't get it down, you can try using Red2Blue. The teachers might be able to come in and help you bring you back down to a Blue Head.”

The result is that you can refocus on your work and be the best student you can be.

A whole-school framework

What The Meadows demonstrates is exactly what Red2Blue for Schools aims to achieve: a unified framework that provides consistent language and strategies across the entire school community. The programme doesn't just benefit individual students. It changes the culture, developing resilience, respect and cohesion throughout the school body.

The impact is tangible. Schools implementing Red2Blue report reductions in the need for clinical interventions related to anxiety or stress, better attendance, improved performance across both sports and academics and fewer discipline issues. At The Meadows, you can see this in action. The children aren't just learning strategies; they're developing mindset skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

Watching the wellbeing champions at The Meadows speak with such confidence and clarity about their emotional wellbeing demonstrates why programmes like Red2Blue are so valuable. In a world where young people face unprecedented pressures, giving them practical, accessible tools to manage their mindset is essential.
