Red2Blue in the News: Rise in Workplace Mental Health-Related Sickness Can Be Reversed

With workplace sickness at a 15-year high, costing employers an average of £120 in lost profit for every missed day, the government is responding with a major three-year programme involving more than 60 large employers. But policy alone can’t solve this, which is where Red2Blue comes in.

Our CEO Martin Fairn talked to 9AM Business about why early intervention is key to reversing the rise in workplace mental health-related sickness. Here's what this piece tells us:

1. The problem is growing, but it isn't inevitable.
The DWP-commissioned review warns that another 600,000 people could leave work by 2030, but it also states clearly that this outcome can be avoided. The conditions for change exist. What's needed are practical, scalable tools that organisations can implement now – tools like the Red2Blue framework.

2. Shared responsibility requires shared language.
The review calls for a shift away from relying solely on individuals and the NHS, towards a model where employers, employees and healthcare all play a role. Red2Blue gives organisations exactly that, a framework and a common language that works at every level, from the shop floor to the boardroom, and is simple enough for anyone to learn and apply.

3. Prevention is significantly more effective, and more affordable, than cure.
Waiting until employees are signed off is costly for everyone. Red2Blue's model is built around equipping people with the mental skills to handle pressure before it becomes a crisis, offering organisations a proactive, proven approach to mindset development.
